What a great days racing. Castlemaine never fails to impress!
With Bendigo’s ORCCA round on just up the road the numbers were down a little, but that didn’t take anything away from the competition. You always know the pace will be hot when Matt Griffen shows up. He brings the best out of everyone as they all try that little bit harder to catch the master.
Matt Griffen took the TQ for the day with wins in all 4 heats. Matt Chatz, Ron Maya and John Bateman also pulled some great times followed closely by Alan Nankervis and Mick Campion. The final started out pretty clean with everyone getting through the first section. Griffen checked out a small gap with Maya in chase and a gap back to Chatz, Bateman, Nankervis and Campion. After a mishap, Griffen fell back into the pack but quickly settled and found his way back into the lead. The chasing pack all shared time in 3rd place before Chatz took advantage of a small gap and started on chasing down Maya. By the end Matt Griffen took the win over Matt Chatz and Ron Maya.
Sportsman Buggy was great to watch today. These guys are really starting to find their way around the track. Cameron Urquhart, Michael Reissmann, Patrick Odonovan and Declan Cook all showed that they can string some great laps together and wont by in this class for long. Qualifying was a mixed bag as was the final. Everyone had a crack at the lead but after the siren sounded it was Michael in the lead followed by Cameron in second and Declan in third
Truggy was very low in attendance today with only 3. This didn’t stop Shane Panczel, Charles Borg and Glenn Cook from taking to the track with everything they had. Shane was the pace setter all day taking all 4 heats for the days TQ then backing it up in the final with a win. He was followed home by Charles in second and Glenn in third.
Thanks go to the girls on the BBQ for keeping us fed all day and Tim Forster and Matt Chatz for putting on a great meeting.
See you all next month
CRCCC – Castlemaine Club Meet this weekend, 6th of May
This weekend Castlemaine have their regular club meet. If you’ve never been to CRCCC make an effort to get up there. The track is without fail always amazing.
The smaller layout always makes for tough and tight racing in all classes.
Recent changes to the layout have made it all the more exciting for the regulars that attend, bringing the pack back together again.
CRCCC’s track is on Railway ave Castlemaine. From Melbourne head up the Calder Hwy and take the first Castlemaine exit. Follow the Pyreseese Hwy in to Castlemaine turning left onto Railway ave just before Forest Creek. As the road turns hard right at the top of the hill turn left onto the dirt rd and follow it into the track.
UPDATE
Just got off the phone with the CRCCC committee and the track is ready for racing tomorrow. With a clear forecast we’ll see you all there
GRCOR – Practice Cancelled 6th of May

SRCCC – 1/8 EP Cup & SCT Showdown Report – 28th of April
It was perfect weather for racing, nice sunny day, no wind, no rain, no bugs. We had a great turnout with 52 people entering for our first annual EP CUP & SCT event, great to see alot of people from Barmah, Bendigo and Keilor RC Clubs. We had enough time to run 4 Qualifiers followed by 3 A Finals and 1 B Final.
We would like to thanks Nathan for running the computer all night and our President Mark for all the BBQ, Refreshments and other work. We thank all the other members who contributed on the day with the setting and packing up, also the sweeping and watering. Thanks to Barmah RC Club for lending us their transpoders while ours are getting repaired.
The track was a bit loose early, but from the 4th round of qualifying onwards into the finals the track surface was perfect as usual. The Results as you can see were dominated by usual suspects Matt Griffin and Scott Rawlings with Richard Baker taking out 4WD Open:
1/8 EP Buggy – 1st: Matt Griffin, 2nd: Scott Rawlings, 3rd: Paul Goodie
2WD SCT 10.5 – 1st: Scott Rawlings, 2nd: Paul Garner, 3rd: Shaun Connelly
2WD SCT OPEN – 1st: Matt Griffin, 2nd: Pat Davies, 3rd: Hayden Stammers
4WD SCT OPEN – 1st: Richard Baker, 2nd: Scott Rawlings, 3rd: Paul Garner
We thank everyone for coming and hope next year to be even bigger and better.
GRCOC race wrap – 29th of April
Heres a full days race wrap thanks to Jay Nash over at GRCOR
The 29th of April was a great day for racing at Avalon with the rain clearing up the night before and the track full of moisture from the weeks steady rain falls grip was defiantly not going to be a problem. With a good turnout as usual and some faster names not in attendance the scene was set for some good racing.
Qualifying.
EP Buggy saw Steve Bee on 10 laps in 7:47.413 in TQ followed by Chris Tomaszveski and Glen Stewart on 9 lap qualifiers making up the top three Place
1/8 Buggy saw some close times with Ron Maya on 10 Laps in 7:16.026 in TQ followed by Glen Stewart and Shane Panczel on 9 laps making up the top 3 but very closely followed by Mitchel Sutej, David Curtis and Aaron Burgess all within seconds of the top spots.
Truggy was seen some faster racing than buggy with Ron Maya at 10 laps 7:01.826 in TQ Closely Followed by Sam Filiadis with 10 7:12.894 and Aaron Burgess, Eric Kolbeck, Grant Gallagher, Jay Nash and Moe Zulkifi all on 10 lap qualifiers.
Onto the Mains.
first up was Truggy 30 min Main which saw the experience of Ron Maya as he got out front a stayed there for 42 laps in 30:21.477. Some great driving from Grant Gallagher saw him working his way up the field to take second Place and Aaron Burgess managed to cradle a broken D8T home for Third.
Next race was EP Buggy and Steve Bee came out on fire showing the local boys how its done But suffered Mechanical problems opening the door for Chris Tomaszveski and Glen Stewart. They swapped positions throughout the 15 minute Main, a flat battery on the last lap saw Glen bow out giving the win to Chris Tomaszveski. Glen Stewart in second and Steve Bee taking third Place.
sportsman buggys ran with the EP guys and with allot of new faces and no transponders we saw Shane hunt take top spot
The final race for the day was the 1/8 Buggy Main, This one was a real thriller for young Mitchel Sutej who got off to a good start leading the way for the first few laps. A stumble opened the door for Ron Maya to take the lead where he would stay till the very end taking First place. Young Mitchel put on a great chase managing to hold on to the lead lap for most of the race and taking Second place. The battle for Third had David Curtis and Glen Stewart putting pit strategies into play with Glen topping up with two minutes to go and David running out of juice in the last minute giving Glen Third place.
GRCOR would like to thank everyone that came out to support the club and Lipton ice tea/Streets for putting up some prizes for the day.
